Citrine

Citrine, a stone with golden reflections ranging from pale yellow to intense honey, has since Antiquity been a symbol of wealth, joie de vivre, and inner light. Known as the "sun stone" or the "stone of abundance," it fascinates with its warm radiance and luminous virtues, both in ancient traditions and modern crystal healing.
Origins and Formation
Citrine is a variety of quartz, whose yellow to orange color is due to the presence of iron naturally heated within the crystal. Although found naturally, many citrines on the market are actually artificially heated amethysts or smoky quartz. The main natural citrine deposits are located in Brazil, Madagascar, Nigeria, Spain, and Russia.
Antiquity: Stone of Light and Protection
In ancient Greece, citrine was already used as jewelry or a talisman around 300 BC. It symbolized the sun, vitality, and was believed to protect against snake venom. The Romans fashioned it into intaglios (engraved stones) and associated it with Mercury, god of commerce, in connection with its power to attract wealth. It was also worn to ward off misfortune and soothe anger or destructive emotions.
Middle Ages and Renaissance: Stone of Merchants and Success
During the Middle Ages, citrine was used by healers and alchemists to treat illnesses related to the liver, digestion, and mood disorders. Over time it became the "merchants' stone," highly prized by traders to attract abundance, customers, and secure business dealings. Many placed it in their purse or cash register. During the Renaissance, it was also used for its solar beauty, in rings and brooches intended to bring optimism and success.
Contemporary Symbolism and Crystal Healing
In crystal healing, citrine is an energizing stone, associated with joy, creativity, and abundance in all its forms.
Its main benefits: stimulates self-confidence and motivation, promotes positive energy, enthusiasm, and good mood, attracts prosperity, professional success, and opportunities, helps overcome fears related to lack (money, love, self-esteem), and supports creativity and inspiration. It is linked to the solar plexus chakra (3rd chakra), the center of willpower, inner strength, and personal radiance.
Modern Uses
Jewelry: necklaces, bracelets, and rings to stimulate confidence and vitality. Lucky charm: in the wallet or workspace (in connection with abundance). Energy decoration: as a raw or tumbled stone in living spaces. Meditation: used to activate inner light and manifest positive intentions.
